About Me

Hi!   I’m Amy – thanks for stopping by.

I’m a former California girl turned backyard gardener just outside Portland, Oregon.   My friends and family still can’t believe I have chickens living in my backyard. When I started my garden in 2009, I knew next to nothing — and I’m still learning, but that’s part of the fun!

I live in a completely stereotypical ‘burb (and love it) and only have a fairly small suburban lot to work with, but we try to make the most of the space we have.  My goal is to grow lots of yummy veggies, raise our silly backyard chickens, and prove you can do both while still making things look “nice” and not scaring my neighbors away!

I hope you enjoy a little peek into my world where I cook up gluten-free goodies, tend to my backyard garden, have fun learning to make stuff from scratch, deal with the crazy chickens and spoil the two Westie pups that really rule the roost – all while making sure my little girl gets her naps in and eats her veggies.  Oh yea, and I work outside the home part-time too.

If you need to reach me, send me a note at yardtofork (at) gmail (dot) com.

  1. What a great website, urban farm girl. Thanks for all the delicious food recipes. Got to get the wife cooking. Oops, that sounded bad. Keep up all the “responsible” actions that make this a better world.

  2. I love the potatoes in the trash can idea. I think I might give it a try. I have a couple of trash cans sitting around since the city of Portland ‘gave’ us new ones.
    Great website!
